Alternity Wind Power Names Benson Shapiro, Harvard Business School Professor, To Board of Directors


NEW YORK, [December 13, 2007] — Alternity Wind Power, LLC, a late-stage integrated developer of utility-scale wind farm projects in North America, today announced the appointment of its first outside director, Professor Emeritus Benson Shapiro of the Harvard Business School.


Prof. Shapiro, a nationally recognized expert on marketing strategy and sales management, taught full-time at the Harvard Business School for 27 years. He has served as a consultant to more than 300 companies, from start-ups to multi-national corporations, and is the author or editor of 14 books, as well as 19 articles for the Harvard Business Review.


“From a social, environmental and economic perspective, the renewable energy industry — particularly wind power — is one of the most exciting and promising areas today, ” said Prof. Shapiro. “It’s an honor for me to be part of a company that is so well positioned to take advantage of — as well as contribute to — the explosive growth in this market.”


Prof. Shapiro has special expertise in pricing, product line planning, and marketing organization. As the Malcolm P. McNair Professor of Marketing Emeritus at Harvard, he has taught a wide variety of MBA courses, including industrial marketing, sales management and creative marketing. For the past ten years, while continuing to teach at Harvard, he has concentrated on consulting, speeches, serving on boards and writing. His articles include, Leveraging to Bat the Odds: The New Marketing Mind-Set, What the Hell is Market-Oriented? and Manage Customers for Profits, Not Just Sales.


Prof. Shapiro holds a BSE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and MBA and DBA degrees from Harvard.
